Full Frame’s Mike Walter speaks with Genny Lim. Lim is a poet, author, and educator. She is the author of several books of poetry, as well as the award-winning play Paper Angels that tells the story of a group of Chinese immigrants detained on Angel Island in the early 20th century. Detainees often wrote poems by carving them into the wooden walls of the Angel Island barracks, expressing their frustration and resentment. Lim translated these poems and was co-author of Island: Poetry and History of Chinese Immigrants on Angel Island. Lim’s own father was detained at Angel Island but spoke little of his personal experience.
